House Music Vinyl Records: Chicago Classics, 12-Inch Singles and New Albums

House music on vinyl: what this collection covers

This page gathers the house music vinyl records listed on Vinyles.com, each with offers from several partner stores. House was born in Chicago clubs in the early 80s, and vinyl stayed the DJ's format long after digital arrived. The collection mixes historic figures like Ron Trent with a newer wave of UK and European producers: Bicep, Floating Points, Leon Vynehall, Daniel Avery, DJ Seinfeld, Ross From Friends, Session Victim, TSHA and Claptone, plus French producer Agoria. Whether you want a Chicago classic or a new album, comparing offers side by side shows you the price range at a glance.

The records that shaped house

In Chicago, The Warehouse, where Frankie Knuckles was resident DJ, gave the genre its name, while Ron Hardy ruled the Music Box. Labels Trax Records and DJ International issued the first classics: Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body" and Mr. Fingers' "Can You Feel It", by Larry Heard, which opened the door to deep house.

In New York, Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage inspired the garage sound, carried on by Masters at Work, Kerri Chandler and the Strictly Rhythm label. In the UK, house exploded with the Second Summer of Love in 1988. Later, Daft Punk's "Homework" (1997) became a flagship of French touch, blending house with filtered disco.

12-inch, LP or repress: buying house on vinyl

House lives on the 12-inch single: one or two tracks per side, often in several versions (original, dub, remix), with wide grooves that give the bass real weight. Albums by current artists, Bicep among them, often come as double LPs. Chicago and New York classics circulate as original pressings, sometimes pricey, and as represses. Comparing stores is especially useful for represses, whose prices can vary a lot.

  • Check the speed: many house 12-inches play at 45 rpm
  • Read which versions are on each side
  • Tell apart original pressings, official represses and bootlegs
  • For used copies, check wear: DJ copies were often played hard
