Mood Music Vinyl Pre-orders: Crooners, Lounge and Ambient Records

What these mood music pre-orders cover

Mood music vinyl pre-orders cover records made to set a scene rather than demand full attention: crooners, easy listening, lounge, ambient and multi-artist themed compilations. The upcoming records here lean on the great American voices, with Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Perry Como, whose recordings keep coming back on new pressings. Many are reissues or compilations, some seasonal: crooner Christmas albums, like Elvis Presley’s, are reissued again and again.

With this kind of repertoire, the edition matters. A compilation gathers tracks from several albums or artists, handy for a dinner or a party; a reissued original album keeps the artwork, running order and arrangements conceived as a whole. Both have their place, but it's worth knowing which one you're reserving, especially when the covers look alike.

Why reserve a mood record before release?

A pre-order secures an edition before it sells out, especially color pressings and compilation box sets, which are often limited runs. For seasonal records, it also makes sure the vinyl arrives in time, before the holidays for instance. Because pressing takes months, labels announce these releases well ahead. On the ambient side, reissues of foundational albums, starting with Brian Eno's "Ambient 1: Music for Airports" (1978), regularly go through a pre-order phase as well, and ambient vinyl records often come in small runs.

Pre-order checklist

A vinyl release date can slip, sometimes by weeks. Payment and cancellation terms vary from store to store, and the same compilation may exist in several versions. Before confirming, take a moment to reread the record's listing and the store's terms. If a listing is vague about the tracks or the source, compare it with other offers for the same barcode.

How to buy vinyl online and compare pre-orders

On this page you can compare offers from several partner stores for each upcoming record, then click through to the one you choose; that store handles the order, payment and shipping. Prices for the same pre-order can differ, and so can the version on offer. For a standard crooner compilation there's no rush, since these usually stay in stock after release. For a limited run or a seasonal record, reserve early so it arrives on time.

Frequently asked questions

How do I buy vinyl online?

Pick the record, confirm the exact edition (color, number of discs, barcode), then compare offers from several stores before ordering. Factor in shipping costs and return policies. A record should ship in a rigid mailer designed for vinyl to avoid damage and warping in transit.

What is mood music?

Mood music is made to create an atmosphere rather than grab your full attention: crooners and easy listening, lounge, exotica, ambient. The term spans very different styles, from 1950s orchestras to the electronic textures of Brian Eno, who popularized the word ambient in the late 1970s.

When should I pre-order a Christmas record?

As early as you can, ideally when it's announced in late summer or fall. Pressing plants are very busy before the holidays, and a delay of just a few weeks can push delivery past Christmas. Check the expected ship date the store lists before ordering.

Are crooner reissues in mono or stereo?

It depends on the original recording. Many 1950s tracks exist only in mono, while stereo became common from the end of that decade. Some reissues include both versions. The record's listing should state which one you're getting. If it doesn't, the barcode helps identify the edition.
