Black Antlers presents Coil at the end of their purest period: stripped down, tighter and lighter. The music became more rhythmic, with a greater emphasis on beats. The sound of Black Antlers is intoxicatingly energetic, combining Thighpaulsandra's advanced synthesis, Jhonn Balance's poetic lyrics and Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson's flirtations with jazz and Ableton-assisted maximalism. Originally released as a "work-in-progress album" in June 2004, the record was intended to be finished by the end of the year, but Jhonn Balance died in November; Christopherson reunited with collaborator Danny Hyde, to complete the Black Antlers album in May 2006. In its original form, Black Antlers represented the possibilities of a new era for the band, built from the momentum of concerts, new sounds and new ideas. For the final version, Black Antlers brought together Coil members across decades, collaborating beyond the boundaries of time. The Dais reissue presents Christopherson & Hyde's 2006 version of Black Antlers, with 2004's "Wraiths And Strays (From Montreal)" available on the download card. Remastered by Josh Bonati. For fans of Autechre, Laurel Halo, Drew McDowall, Actress, Huerco S., Tim Hecker, Spiritualized, SoiSong, Cabaret Voltaire, Current 93.
