Although there were aborted attempts at live shows in the early 1980s, this concert is universally regarded as the true live debut of COIL. With a lineup consisting of John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra, and Ossian Brown, COIL took to the stage at RFH clad in their custom-made fluffy polar suits to perform a supremely hypnotic set, somewhat reminiscent of their landmark release Time Machines, but adding a variation and tension largely absent from that drone masterpiece. Balance's vocal performance on "Queens of the Circulating Library" is still a very controlled yet effective affair, quite different from his later manic outbursts. The show itself, along with the long-out-of-print CD release in 2003, which is now highly sought after, was extremely well received and became the cornerstone of a rapid succession of COIL tours over the four short years that followed until Balance's untimely death. This very first double vinyl edition of this fantastic historical document of the COIL experience has been fully overseen by surviving member Thighpaulsandra and is now available on the Retractor label, presented in a sumptuous gatefold sleeve and pressed on 180g vinyl.
