The journey of Richard and Karen Carpenter began in New Haven before taking shape in the creative heart of Southern California. From their early days in the award-winning Richard Carpenter Trio to the harmonious pop of Spectrum, the siblings consistently refined the sound that would soon conquer the world. Their success skyrocketed when a self-made demo reached Herb Alpert, leading them to sign with A&M Records in 1969. What followed was an extraordinary string of timeless hits. "(They Long to Be) Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," "Superstar," "Rainy Days And Mondays," "Top of the World," and "Yesterday Once More" became iconic songs of an era, each shaped by Richard's meticulous arrangements and Karen's warm, inimitable voice. Alongside these iconic tracks, there are two solo pieces by Karen: "Still Crazy After All These Years" and Richard's "Karen's Theme," which he dedicated to Karen after her tragic passing in 1983. Over their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 11 albums, 31 singles, five television specials, and a short-lived TV series. They scored three number-one singles and five number-two singles on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as fifteen number-one hits on the Adult Contemporary chart. Additionally, they placed twelve singles in the top 10. To date, the Carpenters' album and single sales total over... 100 million copies. Music On Vinyl proudly presents a special color edition of the Carpenter album Collected, available in a limited edition of 7,500 individually numbered copies, pressed on transparent vinyl and including a 4-page booklet with liner notes.
