Description

"Prostitute" is the third solo album by British singer Toyah Willcox, released in 1988 on E.G. Records. A concept album with a decidedly experimental dimension, it marks a significant departure from Toyah's previous work. It was inspired notably by the media attention surrounding her recent marriage to Robert Fripp, which made her feel she had "gone from being a powerful artist to an invisible woman." The tracks were written and recorded by Toyah and Steve Sidelnyc in just a few weeks. The album presents itself as a continuous musical work, although a timecode system allows the listener to access a specific track. To adapt to the double-sided format of vinyl and cassette editions, side A, titled "Lie Down," contains the first seven tracks, and side B, titled "Think of England," contains the rest of the album.
