The third album by Sunset Rubdown originally released in 2007, Random Spirit Lover, includes twelve songs that blend into one another, mixing omens and theatricality, confusions and conversions. The dark glamour of the music under the half-lit revelations of rhyme creates an intense, inflated, and manifest dramatic tone, but the scene is wild and the roles are unclear, so the sincerity of the work and the spontaneity of the recordings shine through the formality of the structure. In short, listening to Random Spirit Lover is like watching schoolchildren during a dress rehearsal for the annual Easter play. And although they are not old enough to know that the occasion is not just about pastel-painted eggs and edible bunnies, they wear fake beards with confidence and style.
