Founded in 1980 in Essex County by singer and artist Nick Blinko, Rudimentary Peni quickly established itself as one of the most unconventional bands of the British anarcho-punk movement. Released in 1983, Death Church significantly expands the trio's range: alongside the explosive tracks of their early days, more elaborate structures, incessant tempo changes, and a disturbing atmosphere influenced by fantastic literature, gothic horror, and Blinko's illustrations, who also designed the cover. Considered one of the major albums of British independent punk, Death Church remains a unique work, at the crossroads of hardcore, post-punk, and a visual and musical universe entirely shaped by its main creator.
