Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is Rudimentary Peni's third album, recorded in 1992 but released in 1995. It is an underrated masterpiece of truly outsider and experimental music. The album, filled with haunting tracks based on incessant repetition, plunges the listener into a hypnotic atmosphere. It shows the band's most experimental side, transforming the concept of a punk song into a kind of chant-mantra. The opening track, Pogo Pope, sets the tone with vocalist Nick Blinko repeating "Pogo Pope" to excess. Throughout the album, a continuous loop of the phrase "Popus Adrianus" is present, a reflection of Blinko's delusions, as he believed himself to be Pope Adrian 37 at the time and was committed to a psychiatric hospital under Section 3 of the 1983 Mental Health Act. The album is both unsettling and unique. This official reissue features a single sleeve, a 16-page booklet with artwork by Nick Blinko, and has been remastered from the original tapes by Arthur Rizk.
