The Italian conductor Riccardo Chailly made his debut nearly 40 years ago as an assistant to Claudio Abbado. He has since had a remarkable career on the world's greatest stages and as an exclusive Decca artist. Riccardo Chailly has been at the head of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig since 2005. During the concert celebrating his appointment, he decided to pay tribute to Mendelssohn, founder of the illustrious Gewandhaus Orchestra. With the same orchestra, he returns today to Mendelssohn in a recording featuring essential works: five pieces from the fabulous A Midsummer Night's Dream, including the Overture (op. 21) which was completed in 1843 by the Incidental Music (op. 61) including the very famous Wedding March. The album also presents a masterful interpretation of Concertos number 1 and 2, with the virtuoso pianist Saleem Ashkar as well as the Overture Ruy Blas.
