On the occasion of the centenary of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Decca presents Riccardo Chailly and Stefano Bollani's exciting recording in a limited and numbered edition on 180g blue double coloured vinyl.
Chailly combines classical elegance and the sophistication of the Gewandhaus Orchestra with the jazz/blues sensibility of Milan-born jazz icon Stefano Bollani. The Rhapsody is performed in Grofé's original jazz orchestra version (orchestrated by Paul Whiteman) and in the original symphonic orchestration of Gershwin's Piano Concerto, with Chailly and Bollani unambiguously asserting that it is a concerto from the American Jazz Age.
Catfish Row, the five-movement orchestral suite from Porgy and Bess, bridges the gap between the Rhapsody and the Concerto. Gershwin's first important work, the Broadway-inspired rag Rialto Ripples, completes the set.
