In 2018, Riccardo Chailly celebrates both the 40th anniversary of his collaboration with Decca and the 40th anniversary of his debut at La Scala Theatre in Milan. Decca marks this double anniversary with a new release from Riccardo Chailly: "Messa per Rossini," a work composed by Verdi and his contemporaries, in double CD. The year 2018 also marks the 250th anniversary of the death of Gioachino Rossini. "Messa per Rossini" was composed in his memory by Verdi and 12 other notable Italian composers. Verdi later used the Libera me final in his own Requiem Mass. This rare recording also represents the triumphant return to the spiritual home of Verdi and Rossini, La Scala Theatre in Milan.
