Initially scheduled for release on 11/10
Released in October 1998, *Up*, R.E.M.'s 11th studio album, was a turning point for the Athens-based band led by singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills. Without their original drummer Bill Berry, the quartet embraced electronic sounds and programming, while also emphasizing the presence of keyboards.
Once again, the R.E.M. magic worked: guided by spiritually infused lyrics and featuring a series of exceptional singles (including 'Daysleeper,' to be counted among their most beautiful ballads, and 'Lotus,' a stunning synthesis of their new musical direction), *Up* successfully extended the brilliant discography of one of America's leading alternative rock bands.
The deluxe version of this 25th-anniversary reissue offers a 2LP of 14 tracks, reissued on 180g vinyl. The album has been remastered, supervised by Bob Ludwig.
