Description

These pieces by American composer Nathan Salsburg, originally released in May 2020, are the result of late winter 2019 and spring 2020, composed at his home in Kentucky. Although they have come to take on various new personal resonances, especially during the pandemic, their existence is due to his late discovery of the album "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" by The Caretaker. This album inspired him to attempt a similar approach, locating melodic fragments on 78 RPM records that could serve as the basis for new compositions. Almost entirely lacking recording equipment and home studio skills, he approached these pieces as minimal experiments: an electric guitar, a homemade lap steel, and samples from 78 RPM records. No effects other than those from the guitar amp and speed and pitch adjustments applied to the source recordings were used.
