'The Correct Use of Soap' is Magazine's third album, originally released on Virgin Records in 1980 and produced by Martin Hannett. The album is more dynamic, returning to the pop aspect of 'Real Life', and shows Magazine becoming a mature and cohesive band. The mix adds an element of funk, and Devoto reveals a Costello-esque knack for playful lyrics. The album includes some of Magazine's best songs, notably 'Sweetheart Contract', 'Philadelphia' and 'A Song from Under the Floorboards'.
