Cerf biche et faon

Description

With Cerf biche et faon, Julien Gasc leads us and loses us in the forest of his emotions, playing with his ethereal voice and lyrical instrumentation, against a backdrop of the soft crackle of lo-fi cigarettes. With the urgency of finishing the tracks, whatever it takes, one song per night in a studio at the heart of the stars before a tour in South America, the album contains within it a vital necessity: to write, to heal, to enjoy! He had to turn a page in his life, from a flow, a “jet d’eau,” rehearsing for hours on end, opening his grooves to loved ones for soundproofed rendezvous, in music and smoke. His first solo album after rich collaborations (Aquaserge, Stereolab, April March, Katerine, Burgalat.), Julien Gasc reveals there more intimately the “diamond” he harbors (the artist’s stone, according to him), to make it vibrate on shellac. Mostly resolutely pop songs, or nourished by his teenage energy, his artistic and technical maturity in no way stifles the freshness and spontaneity reinvented in the moment of recording. As the record unfolds, his Rasputin-like beard seduces us, pricks us, makes us bristle, caresses us. As Arthur Cravan said, “(.) I am all animals, all things, all men (.)”, could Julien Gasc be at once stag, doe, and fawn? On listening, we feel all the tenderness, violence, and innocence of his humanity; we sail with him on the 4 tracks of detachment, fatigue, anger, and indolence, and, like a musical sandman, he comes, delicately, to tuck us in on the last songs, lullabies-blankets with angora softness.
