15 tracks from the greats of French song (Boris Vian, Brassens, Brel, Fabulous Trobadors, Ferrat, Ferré, Gainsbourg, Le Forestier, Nougaro, Piaf, Renaud) covered by HK in Châabi version. It is not for nothing that this new project is called HK ET LES DESERTEURS: KADDOUR HADADI (HK & LES SALTIMBANK, MAP) has deserted both the traditional uses of song and the exclusively Mediterranean ties of chaâbi. He did what his conscience dictated and simply his identity as a Frenchman born in Roubaix to Algerian parents. This record is the most beautiful desertion in a long time: about fifteen immense classics take the tangent; BORIS VIAN, JEAN FERRAT, RENAUD, MAXIME LE FORESTIER OR SERGE GAINSBOURG and escape into Chaâbi as if they had always lived there. He calls on two emblematic figures, P'TIT MOH (GNAWA DIFFUSION), and RAFAH KHELIFA (SOUAD MASSI). There are of course his old accomplices MEDHI ZIOUCHE (SALTIMBANKS) and HACENE KHELIFA (MAP) then AMAR CHAOUI (GNAWA DIFFUSION), and MEDDHI DALIL (TAKFARINAS). Les Déserteurs enlist songs by the dozens, discovering secret correspondences between chaâbi and faubourienne waltzes, between Toulouse and the Maghreb (Tomorrow tomorrow by FABULOUS TROBADORS!), between the poetry of the masters of the 50s and the rhythm of the derbouka.
