"Black Celebration" is the fifth studio album by the English group Depeche Mode, released in 1986. Darker than its predecessors, as suggested by the black color of the cover, it notably includes the single "A Question of Time". The recording took place at the Westside studio in London and at Hansa Mischraum in Berlin. Martin Gore wrote all the tracks here. The name of the album is taken from the eponymous song that opens the album. The song "It doesn't matter two" pays tribute to the composer Philip Glass in its typically "glassian" orchestration. The song "New Dress" refers to Princess Diana, who bought herself a quantity of new dresses while people were starving in some neighborhoods of London. This song was censored for a time in England, as criticisms of the royal family were not legal. "Fly on the Windscreen", which was already on the B-side of the single "It's Called a Heart", is rearranged and its title enhanced with the word "Final".
