David Byrne is a modern-day Renaissance man - and that's not just a cliché. From his exhilarating days as co-founder of the renowned new-wave art band Talking Heads (1976-1988) to his own innovative and ever-evolving solo music career, he has pursued his muse across many different artistic fronts. He has been the driving force behind work that is both intellectually bold and commercially successful... And he shows no signs of slowing down decades later. This performance, recorded on November 28, 2001, follows his hit single "Like Humans Do" and the release of the album Look Into The Eyeball, which was another typically eclectic musical stew reflecting a variety of styles and influences, from Philadelphia soul to a D.C.-inspired Go-Go groove and his very first Spanish composition, "Desconocido Soja." Critics at the time called it his best work in years, and his performance on the Austin City Limits stage shows why. Joined by the eclectic Austin tango ensemble, Tosca, Byrne takes us on many different musical paths during his ACL debut. Of course, in addition to being the brilliant songwriter and performer that he is, he is also an accomplished performance artist, photographer, web journalist, screenwriter/director, film score composer, and the founder of his own world music label, Luaka Bop Records. He also has a collection of Grammys, Oscars, and Golden Globes on his mantel.
