Description

Cranes is a dream pop/shoegaze group formed by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw. Their beginnings were modest in the late 80s on Bite Back!, a label from their hometown of Portsmouth, where they released a cassette and a 12-inch mini-album. Shortly after, they recorded a session for John Peel's show on BBC Radio 1, which allowed them to sign with Dedicated Records, a label for influential artists such as Spiritualized, Chapterhouse, Global Communication, Hum, and Beth Orton. Their meteoric rise to fame came after a world tour with The Cure in 1992. Wings of Joy is the first of five studio albums that Cranes recorded for Dedicated. Although slightly lighter than their 80s recordings, it retains that both enchanting and unsettling atmosphere, notably thanks to Alison's poignant, childlike voice.
