A true institution in the world of reggae / dancehall, the One Riddim is a legacy of Jamaican tradition that has established itself as a very distinct production style. For those who don’t yet know it, the principle is simple: over the same instrumental version (riddim), a host of singers, deejays and singjays come in to lay down their vocals, each creating their own version. Most of the major labels have tried it, and today BACO RECORDS is happy to join the game. Naturally, we wanted to bring our own “Baco touch” by producing TWO One Riddims in parallel that go together and complement each other perfectly. We also went for a tailor-made approach to properly showcase each track with specific arrangements for each version, additions of horns, keyboards, in short, something brand new! The BLACK BIRD & BIG SLAP Riddims were provided to us by the members of CITY KAY, an extremely prolific group from the underground scene. Their influences are clearly felt on these two riddims built around an omnipresent bass and subtle electronic touches, creating a delicious Roots Electro Pop blend that is the DNA of CITY KAY. Enough to renew the codes, shake up traditions and highlight a new generation of artists who care little for musical boundaries. The singers clearly answered the call. SIZZLA, ANTHONY B, BEENIE MAN, LUCIANO, GAPPY RANKS, BALIK from DANAKIL, PIERPOLJAK, MARCUS GAD, JAY, singer of CITY KAY, NATTY JEAN, JAHDAN BLAKKAMOORE, LINKHAN, SPECTACULAR, and MANJUL lay down their voices on the BLACK BIRD & BIG SLAP Riddims. From Jamaican international stars to emerging new artists from the French-speaking, African and American scenes, everyone finds their place and brings their own touch to the ultra-diverse tracklist of this project. The release is scheduled for February 22, in digital, CD and of course on vinyl!
