A true institution in the world of reggae/dancehall, the One Riddim is a legacy of Jamaican tradition that has established itself as a unique production style. For those who are not yet familiar, the principle is simple: on the same instrumental version (riddim), a plethora of singers, deejays, and singjays lay down their voices, each creating their own version. Most major labels have dabbled in this, and today Baco Records is happy to join the game. We obviously wanted to bring our "Baco touch" by producing two One Riddims that complement and enhance each other perfectly. We also tailored each title to highlight them well with specific arrangements for each version, adding brass, keyboards, and more — all new! The members of City Kay, an extremely productive group from the underground scene, provided us with the Black Bird and Big Slap Riddims. Their influences are clearly felt in these two riddims, characterized by a prominent bass and subtle electro touches, creating a delightful Roots Electro Pop blend that is the DNA of City Kay. This is a way to renew the codes, shake up traditions, and showcase a new generation of artists who disregard musical boundaries. The singers have clearly answered the call. Sizzla, Anthony B, Beenie Man, Luciano, Gappy Ranks, Balik De Danakil, Pierpoljak, Marcus Gad, Jay Chanteur De City Kay, Natty Jean, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Linkhan, Spectacular, and Manjul lend their voices to the Black Bird and Big Slap Riddims. From international Jamaican stars to emerging artists from the Francophone, African, and American scenes, everyone finds their place and brings their own touch to the ultra-diverse tracklist of this project. The release is scheduled for February 22, in digital, CD, and of course, vinyl!
