Recorded live during the 2012-2013 season, this box set reveals the dark and powerful vision that Christian Thielemann has of Brahms' work, in a very coherent rendering. This version stands in contrast to the Chailly cycle at Decca, light and revisionist. It is indeed rooted in the great German tradition, creating a tragic emotion with an epic sense of musical architecture. The DVD contains the performance of Maurizio Pollini on Brahms' Piano Concertos No. 1 and 2, as well as the very beautiful interpretation of the Violin Concerto performed by Lisa Batiashvilli.
