Carving out their own groove. Strengthening their bonds. Chlorine Free releases their fourth album, Minirose, today. A bold move: creating a narrative album without prestige features or marketing promises, the Chlorine Free signature digs even deeper into this collective, unifying, adventurous and jubilant music, refining its effectiveness to the extreme. That is the full importance of this new opus from a group that, from the very beginning, has managed to forge a strong identity. For 10 years, Chlorine Free has been carefully building a fusion around jazz, funk, electro and hip-hop, constantly drawing a line between a musical heritage directly rooted in the 70s and their own desire to make jazz funk a resolutely contemporary music. Their focus is on sound and mastery of the instruments on one hand, and groove, always as the foundation, on the other: music that is both vibrant and communicative. Relentlessly, the group, unchanged since the beginning and founded around bassist / multi-instrumentalist Virgile Lorach and pianist Romain Clerc-Renaud, pursues this exploration at the crossroads of the great eras of jazz-funk (Hancock, CTI...), the virtuosity of electro made in Ninja Tunes or Mo'Wax (Squarepusher, Dj Shadow) and the need to play this music collectively. You enter the album’s 12 tracks as you would enter a place, a setting, an atmosphere, where the groove carries us toward colors and sensations that simply make us want to stay. Minirose is an extreme distillation of the group’s philosophy, which has managed to mature and renew its music without ever straying from its artistic convictions. Unlike the three previous albums, the group has this time chosen to carry the entire album on its own. If Chlorine Free has always stood out with features such as Raashan Ahmad, Nya, Soweto Kinch or Mike Ladd... Minirose is a fully instrumental album, paying tribute to the skills of each member of the collective. More accomplished in terms of recording, in the work on the synthesizers, on the bass-drums connection, on the balance between the infinite possibilities of post-production and the freshness of the live performance. Minirose, after 10 years of the group’s work, states once and for all that music will always be enough on its own.
