Canibalismo

Description

Cumbia, chicha, psychedelic pop: second album of the sound cannibals from Brooklyn. "Cannibalism is what unites us," wrote Brazilian poet Oswald de Andrade, "socially, economically, philosophically - it is the law of the world." So welcome to "Canibalismo," the second album by the Brooklyn group Chicha Libre. Behind the multinational sextet are, among others, members of: Si Sé and Combustible Edison, its passion is Colombian cumbia, its Peruvian sister, chicha, the psychedelic, surf, pop, and an incomparable retro sound with which the group embellishes its songs on a soundtrack of a long-forgotten South American B movie. "Canibalismo" contains old and new cumbias, some familiar, others more adventurous (the adaptation of Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries"), all inspired by the group's travels through South America and its discoveries in the vast realm of tropical music. Chicha Libre uses everything it finds. After "Sonido Amazonico" (2008), "Canibalismo" is the second album of the sound cannibals.
