Buena Vista Social Club

Description

Buena Vista Social Club is both the name given to this extraordinary pool of musicians and to the album, recorded in just six days in the vintage EGREM studios in Havana. It is clear from the atmosphere emanating from the recording sessions that something very special was happening. However, no one could have predicted that Buena Vista Social Club would become a global phenomenon, surpassing any other work in the same genre and popularizing Cuba’s rich musical heritage, which contributed to a massive boom in Cuba’s tourism and music industries. Released in June 1997, this album has since been regarded as an essential classic, selling more than 8 million copies worldwide. Wim Wenders’ film, Buena Vista Social Club, shot in Cuba and New York and released in 1999, elevated the artists to superstar status.
