Released in 2002, A Christmas Album is Bright Eyes' fifth studio album and their first devoted to Christmas. Proceeds from the album go to the Nebraska AIDS Project, reinforcing its charitable aspect. The disc features Christmas classics revisited by Conor Oberst and his band, including "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," used in the films Imaginary Heroes and Krampus, and "Blue Christmas," featured in an episode of The O.C. titled The Best Chrismukkah Ever. Initially available only on CD via the Saddle Creek website, the album was first released on 180-gram white vinyl in 2009. Critically acclaimed, Pitchfork described it in 2013 as sounding "like a field recording in frigid Omaha church basements." Since then, A Christmas Album has seen numerous reissues, notably in 2023 by independent label Dead Oceans, solidifying its place among the most cherished alternative Christmas albums. Blue vinyl edition.
