Brought up from a young age by his father's bands, Baxter Dury's music could not be further from the turbulent and very second-degree rock'n'roll of Ian Dury. After "Len Parrot's Memorial Lift" (2002) and "Floor Show" (2005), he is about to release "Happy Soup," a 3rd album on the Parlophone label, mixed by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Portishead). With its ten tracks recounting a daily life spent dancing on a flowered terrace in Portugal, and stories of lamentable sex, this new album is light-years away from the darkness and romantic disillusionment of Dury's last record, to the point that he describes it as "seaside psychedelic music." But Baxter's writing talent and his ability to analyze personalities mean that his songs are anything but ordinary.
