Description

Basic brings together Chris Forsyth, Nick Millevoi, and Mikel Patrick Avery (Natural Information Society). This Is Basic, their debut album, is a complex and captivating instrumental album that reinterprets forgotten pieces of guitar history into an emotional mosaic of strings, percussion, and electronics. Drawing inspiration from the 1984 album by Robert Quine/Fred Maher, they came together for a series of jam sessions using an Alesis drum machine for the rhythmic tracks and forging a collaborative language from angular polyrhythms, pulsing baritone guitars, and shimmering chorus pedals (another stylistic nod, this time to the sparkling post-punk of Durutti Column and many 4AD bands). The trio quickly transformed into an improvised whirlwind of disorienting electronics, hypnotic pulses, and dense flanger guitar harmonics: three unique voices spinning a complex conversation of textures and rhythms.
