BASIC, the trio composed of Chris Forysth (guitar), Mikel Patrick Avery (percussion, drum machine, electronics) and Douglas McCombs (Fender Bass VI), recorded their new seven-track album in two days at Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. The overdubs and mixing were finalized with Jeff Zeigler in Philadelphia. The recordings, resolutely groovy, offer a sound that is both light and relaxed, giving the pieces a surprising breadth for a trio. The richness of the details is brought by the intertwining of guitars and Avery's unique style, which blends electronic rhythms and live acoustic percussion through various electronic processors he designed himself. Shortly after the release of their first album (This Is BASIC, 2024), bassist McCombs (Tortoise, Brokeback) joined the group. Accompanied by the founding members from Philadelphia, Forsyth (Solar Motel Band) and Avery (Natural Information Society), they traveled the American west coast, the northeast, and the Midwest, participating in notable festivals such as Sound & Gravity and Big Ears. The chemistry between the three musicians allowed them to compose new pieces almost immediately, and the EP Dream City was released in spring 2025.
