Manivelles, the second album by sound artist Anadol and songwriter Marie Klock, takes a different perspective from their first duo released in 2024; while La grande accumulation was born from a lightning encounter and bubbled with unbridled surrealism, Manivelles deeply draws from the experience of a rare friendship. Its title alludes to the playful friction atmosphere in which the two music box enthusiasts create. Praised by The Quietus, which sees them as "a quirky pop duo where each half pushes the other to new heights of eccentricity," Anadol and Klock produce a funny mixture of pop, kraut, and folk music with sometimes opulent arrangements. A large part of the instrumentals was created in the Parisian studios of David Sztanke, Antoine Bourachot, and Irfane, from which they sampled extravagant machines (Prophet-5, Jupiter-6, Space Echo, Pianet M…). On Sans toi, for example, the mechanical clatter of the Pianet has not only been preserved but amplified to enrich the melancholy of the melody.
