William Eggleston is a famous photographer and musician known for iconic album covers such as Transference by Spoon and Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World. 512 was inspired and recorded in the Parkview Apartments in Memphis, Tennessee, where William lived for nearly ten years. The apartment was filled with art and inspiration: cameras, of course, but also tube stereo amplifiers and rarities that one would rush to buy, cash in hand, at the local flea markets. There was also a gigantic Bosendorfer grand piano and a huge vintage cinema speaker console. His home was overflowing with music. By recording on-site, the album captures not only his performances but also the atmosphere of the place; one often feels that artists are hiding in the ether, listening along with us. His visitors over the years were no less than notable: Lee Friedlander, Carl Sagan, Dennis Hopper, Paul McCartney, and many others came to see him and listen to his hypnotic music. This is how 512 was born, with the legendary Brian Eno on bells and production by Tom Lunt.
