The Older I Get, The Funnier I Was

Description

The Older I Get the Funnier I Was, by musician and comedian Whitmer Thomas, is the album that follows his EP Can't Believe You're Happy Here released in 2022. It oscillates between pop punk, electro, and the influence of singer-songwriters he listened to in his early childhood. It evokes the boredom of Bright Eyes, the candid storytelling of John Prine, and the disillusioned humor of Colleen Green. A large part of the album chronicles what Thomas sees as a child who feels they have no control and compensates by being annoying. The record speaks about drug and alcohol addiction, what it does to people, how a child processes witnessing it, and the fact that there's nothing one can do about it. True to its title, The Older I Get the Funnier I Was does not always seek to make you laugh. Whitmer Thomas is also the creator of the musical one-man show The Golden One, released on HBO in 2020, which led to the album Songs From The Golden One (2020).
