Transitions, the third album from Boston ska stalwarts Westbound Train, is finally getting its very first vinyl pressing, 17 years after its initial release on Tim Armstrong’s Hellcat Records. The 16-track record finds the band at the top of their game, expertly blending early Jamaican ska, reggae and rocksteady sounds with 60s American jazz, soul and funk influences to create an authentic sound all their own.Thirteen years have passed between their albums, but the band sounds better than ever on these twelve tracks. Their signature soulful ska manages to be both current and timeless. While “Dedication” is chock-full of impactful new tracks as hard-hitting as anything the band has ever released, longtime fans will recognize “Room To Breathe,” a reimagined version of a track from their debut album released in 2005.
