Description

Weather Report was one of the most influential jazz-fusion groups of its time and lasted longer than many of its contemporaries, such as Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Despite numerous personnel changes over its sixteen years of existence, the group continued to create innovative music under the direction of Joe Zawinul. Obsessed with the groove, Zawinul steered the group towards a funky and incisive sound, integrating R&B elements. Sweetnighter was the first album where this new direction was noticeable. It was their third studio album, originally released in 1973. The last track of the album, "Non-Stop Home," already hinted at the group's characteristic sound to come.
