Over the course of various lineup changes and artistic shifts that increasingly incorporated funk and R&B, the band saw many prestigious musicians share its ranks, such as Jaco Pastorius, Frank Cuomo, Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine, Chester Thompson, and Alex Acuña. Weather Report is considered one of the eminent and pioneering groups of the jazz fusion movement, alongside Miles Davis's Electric Band, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the Headhunters. Their live performances largely contributed to this renown: cosmic improvisations, technical prowess, and formidable groove were always on display!
