After three albums released on No Pain In Pop (Lemniscate, 2012) and Company, the label founded by Chaz Bundick of Toro Y Moi (Intro in 2015 and Brunei in 2016), Vinyl Williams joined the French label Requiem Pour Un Twister for his fourth album Opal, released in 2018. Through his art, both musical and visual, Lionel Williams explores the syncretism between dream and reality, between earth and space. For him, music is an opportunity to transpose opposing characteristics toward their centers in order to dissolve any illusion of duality. Since chaos and disorder are an illusion, Vinyl Williams seeks, through his musical work, to access a new state of celestial harmony. The result of his research, filled with a mysticism inspired by the utopias of the space age, is Opal, an ambitious album made up of ten luminous pop songs that transport the listener on a transcendental journey to the edges of a kaleidoscopic universe.
