1989-1992

Description

Formed at the hinge of the 80s and 90s, Velocity Girl emerged from a new underground pop scene that was bubbling in Washington D.C. and its suburbs. This band, revolving around the then-nascent Slumberland Records label, expanded the scope of the capital's punk with a keen sense of pop and a sound saturated with feedback. Velocity Girl, boasting several talented songwriters, particularly knew how to merge euphoric pop melodies with waves of noisy happiness and romantic melancholy. This new compilation, "1989-1992", covers the years leading up to their signing with Sub Pop and demonstrates that their talent for melody was already present in their early days, despite several lineup changes and numerous early releases. It features the timeless classic "Forgotten Favorite", as well as their first single "I Don't Care If You Go", performed by original singer Bridget Cross (who would later join Unrest). It also includes essential contributions to split singles and compilations, a few choice covers (Beat Happening, The Jam) and even two unreleased tracks. Recently remastered and enhanced with detailed liner notes written by John R. Davis, a specialist in the Washington D.C. music scene, "1989-1992" offers the complete vision of their beginnings that Velocity Girl had long deserved and that their fans had eagerly awaited.
