New World Artifacts/180g Clear Vinyl

Description

"New World Artifacts" is the debut album from Rouen-based French band Unschooling, arriving after a string of EPs. Released on October 6th via Bad Vibrations, it’s a thirty-something minute collection of lo-fi post-punk, laced with subtle pop melodies and structures, along with chaotic no-wave dissonance. As they themselves write, “New World Artifacts is an ode to the unexpected, a tribute to the many art rock bands who are always where you least expect them to be.” Already touted as one of the most exciting bands in the new school of post-punk revivalists, having spent the last two years playing to rapturous crowds and at festivals across the continent (including several in France). The Unschooling quintet, as indicated by the album’s artwork, is made up of Vincent Fevrier (vocals/guitar), Damien Tebbal (bass), Paul Morvant (guitar), Marc Lebreuilly (guitar/synth), and Thomas Fromager (drums). The musicianship is intricate and meticulous, hardened by their time together playing on the road. For ‘New World Artifacts’, additional musicians were drafted to expand the sound in new ways, including saxophonists Levi Gillis (The Dip, Beat Connection) and Emeline Morisset (Les Agamemnonz), as well as Kyleen King (Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, My Morning Jacket) on strings.
