Compact Trauma

Nearly five years after their last release, Ulrika Spacek return from the exile they imposed on themselves with a third album, "Compact Trauma." A collection of songs that serves as a manifesto on our current collective condition. With a title like this, it would be tempting to interpret the record solely through the lens of global events in recent years; however, these ten tracks are rooted much further back in time and carry their own stories. The prolonged break caused by a myriad of lockdowns separated the band, but it also gave the five of them time to reflect and gain perspective on what had already been recorded. When the shutters reopened and the light came in, they found themselves facing "Compact Trauma." What they discovered was an album that seemed to anticipate the shared pain of a global pandemic. Even though the specifics were different, the themes were strangely similar, dealing with existential panic, displacement, drug dependency, and lack of self-confidence. These very personal songs suddenly took on a broader significance, fitting into a larger narrative.
