Description

A Willed and Conscious Balance is the first album of material arranged for an ensemble by multi-instrumentalist composer Tomin Perea-Chamblee. Most of the album was recorded in one day at the Bunker in Brooklyn, NY by the in-house engineers of IARC Dave Vettraino and David Allen, and features truly incredible programming that includes members of Irreversible Entanglements and FLY or DIE by jaimie branch.
Tomin's work with this group of veteran musicians is, however, singular, which instantly distinguishes this material from the discographies of its contributors. Imagine the density of a J.J. Johnson arrangement rhythmically stretched and pulled in the manner of Pharoah Sanders from the Thembi era, or the elegance of the bop squawk infused with Dolphy from Out Front by Booker Little sent into the sonic washing machine of The Jewel in the Lotus by Bernie Maupin. The sounds heard on A Willed and Conscious Balance take the listener to a new place. A collective exploration of simplicity that gives something complicated, just like life itself.
