Formed in the mid-80s in London, the Quireboys quickly made their mark on the thriving rock'n'roll scene of Soho, Camden, and beyond. They have always been an excellent live band, perfecting their style and filling the legendary Marquee Club and venues across the country long before releasing a record, and when they finally released their first album A Bit Of What You Fancy, what an album it was. The second album Bitter, Sweet And Twisted followed in 1993, after which the band went on hiatus. In 2024, the Quireboys are releasing their highly anticipated new album Wardour Street. Spike, Nigel, Chris, and Rudy have kept their promise to make new Quireboys music after the sad passing of their best friend Guy Bailey. The London rock project Thirsty returns with God Bless America, a striking album that celebrates the life, work, and unique creative spirit of the late Guy Bailey – founder of the Quireboys, songwriter, guitarist, and architect of Thirsty's distinctive sound.
Originally, this new album was an idea from Irina D and was meant to be a simple tribute: Spike was to sing just one track, “10 7 and Possibly 6.” But his first take stunned the entire team in the studio: Guy's guitar and Spike's voice united with the force of a rekindled chemistry. What started as just a song quickly became a full album, rich in emotions. Spike himself confides: “Having the opportunity to record again with Guy was truly exceptional.” More than just a compilation, God Bless America is a rare and unexpected reunion: a posthumous collaboration between Guy Bailey and his long-time friend and musical partner, Spike (of the Quireboys), who reinvents Bailey's songs through new voices and powerful duets. Remixed and shaped under the watchful eye of legendary Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey, the album brings a new clarity, a new intensity, and an unprecedented emotional depth to the music created by Bailey with his co-writer Irina D.
