Every journey needs a guide. Through the trumpet, Theo Croker tells a human story rooted in an intimate experience on his new album. This journey unfolds in technicolor on his sixth album, BLK2LIFE A FUTURE PAST. "This record was composed like film music," Croker explains. "I want the listener to feel like they are in the film." True contemporary oratorios, the 13 tracks on BLK2LIFE A FUTURE PAST draw inspiration from the journey of a forgotten hero toward self-fulfillment, in the universal origins of Afro-identity. The narrative is an affirmation of the hero's creative identity, exploring the traditions of the past, their foundations in the present and potential explorations in the future. Theo embarked on his latest musical odyssey at home, after rising to a new stratosphere with Star People Nation in 2019, a record that earned a nomination in the "best contemporary instrumental album" category at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards. Along the way, Theo lent his talents to many artists, from J. Cole to Common, and performed before audiences around the world. This new album is also packed with contributors and collaborators. "I wanted different voices to tell the different movements and colors I was presenting on the instrumental level." Ari Lennox, Charlotte Dos Santos, Gary Bartz, Iman Omari, Kassa Overall, Malaya and Wyclef Jean thus joined Croker on this new project. This synergy is fully evident on "HERO STOMP A FUTURE PAST," the album's lead track, or on the single "State Of The Union 444 BLK2THEFUTURE," a galactic production co-produced by Kassa Overall featuring the legendary Fugees co-founder Wyclef Jean. Ultimately, Theo is not only our guide in BLK2LIFE - he is also the hero of the story, through his music that continues to touch people because of its otherworldly sonic magic.
