The young trumpeter Theo Croker certainly inherited his innate talent from his grandfather, the legendary trumpeter Doc Cheatham. Theo Croker was born in Florida on July 18, 1985, in Leesburg. Once graduated from Oberlin in 2007, Theo frequented and played with musicians like Benny Powell, Jimmy and Tootie Heath, Billy Hart, and Marcus Belgrave. Today, Theo writes and produces hip-hop, rap, and film music, as well as contemporary classical music. His influences are numerous: they range from Louis Armstrong to Roy Hargrove, passing through Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis, but are not limited to jazz as he also refers to the roots of hip hop and R & B: Stevie Wonder, Digable Planets, Outkast, Quincy Jones, Pharrell, and many others... "Afro Physicist" is Theo Croker's third CD and his first for the Okeh label. He produced it with singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, who is also one of the guest soloists (along with her daughter China Moses and trumpeter Roy Hargrove). "Afro Physicist" is a powerful and modern jazz album that pays tribute to the tradition of this music while propelling it into the future.
