Oh, Inverted World, the debut album by The Shins, which shook the world and redefined indie rock in 2001, is presented here in its finest form for its 20th anniversary. The classic tracks have been revitalized thanks to a complete remastering under the watchful eye of frontman James Mercer. The artwork gains flair with a die-cut cover and an elegant inner sleeve. Aside from a friendly reminder that this is the album with the hit "New Slang," heard in the film Garden State by Zach Braff featuring Natalie Portman, it is important to note that the remastering has made the album what James Mercer has always wanted it to be. Never quite satisfied with the sounds of the original, James took advantage of the album's 20th anniversary to finally set things right. Hailing from Albuquerque, NM, The Shins emerged from the ashes of Flake / Flake Music in 1997, although these earlier incarnations date back nearly a decade. Same members, different instruments, different approach. The counterpoint guitars have given way to a single guitar set against precise keyboard passages, while countless indie-rock maneuvers have led to melodic efforts with pop influences.
