Beat Club October 1968

Description

Frank Zappa and the We're Only In It For The Money line-up of The Mothers of Invention began their second European tour in autumn 1968 with some dates in Germany. While there, on October 6th, they recorded a 35-minute session for the TV show Beat Club. Partially improvised, entirely instrumental, this session drew primarily from themes that would appear on their 1969 album, Uncle Meat. It also features snippets of Don't Do That by The Five Tinos and Wagner's Lohengrin, undoubtedly played specifically for their German audience. The Essen music festival had paid for the band's ten-thousand-dollar flight, and this disc features a fifteen-minute version of King Kong from that show. This is vintage Frank Zappa at his creative best and the sound quality is excellent.
