Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon

Description

Last year, The Mars Volta ended a decade of silence with a self-titled album that still has more to say. Indeed, on April 21, 2023, the band will release 'Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon', an acoustic version of the album described as folk by Omar Rodriguez Lopez. The Mars Volta has announced 'Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazon', an album that acoustically reimagines the material with which Omar Rodriguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala returned to music a year ago. In Rodriguez-López’s words, it is the "folk disco" version that returns to the sounds of the original material mixed with its traditional Caribbean roots. It was recorded during the pandemic in his native Puerto Rico. "It was a fun process," he said. "It made me think about the history of recording music in the United States. There was 'traditional music,' which became 'Americana,' or country music. And the other genre was 'race music,' which was exactly what it sounded like: music made by anyone who was 'immigrant,' meaning mostly Black people. That is, anything that wasn’t country. In other words, all the interesting shit: r&b, blues, rock'n'roll, electronic music... It says a lot about this country," he added. "I realized that I could finally make a record like that now, I just had to get there," he says. "It was the experience. And it was fun. I feel like The Mars Volta is finally starting, which is why the last album called itself that, because we finally stripped everything away and went back to what the concept was at the beginning. And this acoustic version comes from a deep place, with its own meaning and its own philosophy, and its own reason for being," Rodriguez López added about the material.
