VV and Hotel love each other against all odds. Far from everything and trends, this American and her Englishman from London, who are not new to musical endeavors, have decided to illustrate their special relationship by recording curious blues songs close to the floor. But this devilishly lo-fi repertoire, which moves the seekers of the next big thing these days, knocks against the ceiling of preconceived ideas and deserves all our attention. Dusty and starry garage rock, relevant and energetic, The Kills' music does not fit into any current, does not obey the rules. Even if naturally one wonders what a potential second album by The Kills would look like (this music owes so much to the freshness of a momentary relationship, primarily epidermal, that it certainly will not withstand the wear of days), we are unlikely to turn our backs on "Keep On Your Mean Side," a perfect collection of odes to the heart's deviations that will logically make those who love a little too easily fantasize against a backdrop of conventional rock.
