Formed in Manchester in 1962, The Hollies always closely followed The Beatles in the charts and had the distinction of possessing the same vocal talent as the Fab Four. The group was initially formed by two friends, Allan Clarke and Graham Nash, and quickly joined by lead guitarist Tony Hicks. These three excellent musicians began composing their own songs in 1964, and then wrote their own repertoire and entire albums starting in 1966. "Evolution," released in 1967, is to The Hollies what "Sgt. Pepper's" is to The Beatles, or what "Pet Sounds" is to The Beach Boys. They all share a common trait: the same vocal talent. "Evolution" marked a pivotal moment for The Hollies, as they too delved into a more Pop Rock/psychedelic sound at the end of 1966, all while maintaining superb melodies, adorned with incomparable vocal harmonies, much like those of Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison, or those of the Wilson family.
