Featured are Nicke Anderson, singer of Hellacopter, Gerry Love, voice of Teenage Fanclub, as well as London soul singer Emma Noble and rising Australian star J Mahon! On "Waves," Frank Popp brings together Northern Soul, psychedelia, 90s indie rock, and an orchestral soundtrack vibe to create a cohesive and compelling work that feels promising and uplifting in these challenging times. The fourth album from Frank Popp Ensemble will be released by Unique Records. Written. As on the previous album "Shifting," several guest singers can be heard on the 11 new tracks. Gerry Love, former singer of the legendary Teenage Fanclub, who, according to Popp, wrote and sang almost all of the group's favorite songs from the cult Glasgow band. Gerard Love had previously contributed to the compilation "Under Covers" with a cover of "The World Is Waiting" by Frank Popp and has now done another great job on Waves. Nicke Andersson is another hero in Popp's record collection. Former drummer of the death & roll band Entombed, then singer of the incomparable Hellacopters and mastermind behind other top bands such as The Solution, Imperial State Electric, Lucifer, etc., he appears on "Caught In A Web." A Northern Soul track in the pure tradition of "Magic Touch." Emma Noble, a promising soul singer from London, sings on the soul anthem "Unstoppable," reminiscent of girl bands. J Mahon, who can be heard on 5 tracks of the album and has significantly contributed to it, is an absolutely exceptional artist. His smooth voice works well on his own songs as well as on "Going Going Gone," the first single, which recalls some young Motown artists from the early 70s with its catchy brass hooks and J's androgynous soul voice. Audrey Ollesen, from Cologne, an old friend of the Rhineland mod scene, joined the group by chance after Popp discovered her singing talents through private recordings. Audrey can be heard for the first time on the recording of "Common Stranger." On "Waves," Frank Popp combines Northern Soul, psychedelia, 90s indie rock, and an orchestral soundtrack vibe to create a cohesive and compelling work that feels promising and uplifting in a not-so-bright period.
